re:note stores all your notes, tasks, and personal data locally on your device. We collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the product, but we never have access to your notes, their content, or any personally identifiable information.
Overview
re:note is a browser extension designed to help you capture notes, tasks, and reminders directly from your browser side panel. Privacy is at the core of how we built this extension — your notes and personal data never leave your device. We collect only anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the product.
Data Storage
All data created within re:note is stored locally on your device using your browser's built-in storage mechanisms:
- Notes, tasks, and stacks are stored in IndexedDB, a database built into your browser.
- Preferences (theme, color scheme) are stored in the browser's local storage.
- PIN protection uses a one-way hash stored locally. Your actual PIN is never stored in plain text.
Your notes, tasks, and personal content are never sent to any external server, cloud service, or third party. We have no servers and no backend infrastructure that stores your content.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage data that helps us understand how re:note is used and improve the product. This data is limited to:
- Feature usage signals — such as whether you created a note, set a reminder, or changed the theme. We track that an action happened, not the content involved.
- Extension lifecycle events — installation, updates, and side panel opens.
- Website page views — standard analytics for the getrenote.com marketing website.
We never collect:
- Note content, titles, or text you write
- URLs you visit or page titles
- Any personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address)
- Advertising identifiers or cross-site tracking data
Analytics data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy. No analytics data is linked to your identity or your notes.
Browser Permissions
re:note requests the following browser permissions, each used solely for core functionality:
- sidePanel — Required to display the notes interface in the browser side panel.
- storage — Required to save your preferences and settings locally.
- tabs and activeTab — Required to associate notes with the webpage you are currently viewing, so notes appear when you return to that page.
- alarms — Required to schedule reminder notifications at the times you set.
- notifications — Required to display reminder notifications when they are due.
These permissions are used exclusively for the features described above and nothing else.
Data Export
re:note allows you to export your data as a CSV file. This export is entirely user-initiated — data is generated locally and saved to your device. No data is transmitted during the export process.
Data Deletion
You can delete individual notes, stacks, or all data at any time from within the extension. Uninstalling the extension will also remove all locally stored data. Since we do not store any data externally, there is nothing to delete on our end.
Third-Party Services
re:note uses the following third-party service:
- Google Analytics 4 — used to collect anonymous usage analytics as described in the Analytics section above. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
No other third-party services receive data from re:note. Your notes and personal content remain entirely on your device.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes.
